Revive Bombay

...bit by bit...

Our parents always taught us to give back to society. Both my parents are actively involved in social and educational philanthrophy.

This education was further enhanced when I went to the Atlantic College in Wales. The United World Colleges are all about making a difference in your world - being pro-active, where every person can make a positive change.

When I went to Georgia Tech, I was probably the most involved person on campus. From the Residence Hall Association, to the Student Government Association, to the school newspaper, to the Student Center Program Board, Lyceum Series, GT Motorsports, GT Crew, India Club.

Therefore when I came back to India, I realised that Bombay as a city was dying. The city has the most amazing spirit impossible to find anywhere else in the world. So it upset me that a city like mine was not getting better and better, but worse and worse.

That's when I had the idea of Revive Bombay - an NGO/non-profit which works towards restoring Bombay back to her glory days.

However, this was different from others. Here there was no President/VP/Treasurer/Secretary etc. The organisation has a flat structure. And we don't take up just any projects. We take up those projects that are proposed and backed up by someone. Therefore, if you have an idea to plant more trees in the city, you come to the organisation and propose your idea, and get the members of the organisation to be a part of your team. And the org works to make your project a reality, from raising funds, to accessing government officials through its network etc.

So getting a bunch of friends together, which soon expanded to a membership database of 300 members, Revive Bombay was born in 2002 (04/03/02) to be precise. Since then, the organisation has faced many battles in trying to improve the city - be it apathy, red tape etc. But it has been striving bit by bit... hoping to one day restore this city and country back to its glory
